Discipleship: Preparing People for Ministry & Action

Discipleship: “Developing a personal, life long, obedient relationship with Jesus Christ in which He transforms your character into Christ likeness; changes your values into Kingdom values; and involves you in His mission in the home, the church, and the world.”

Avery Willis – Author of MasterLife.

Our goal is to be obedient to Christ’s Great Commission to go and make disciples. Discipleship Ministries at Cedar Creek Baptist are dedicated to create opportunities for believers to fulfill the biblical purposes God has for them personally and in the life of His local church at Cedar Creek Baptist. Our role is, “to prepare God's people for works of service,” Eph 4:12-13 (NIV)

The primary text for all studies will be the Bible. It is the primer for preparing disciples for action. Multiple opportunities each week will be available for members, guests, and all ages to focus on specific developmental needs.

These studies are not an end in themselves to the discipleship process. They serve to build a foundation on which individuals can begin moving forward in a life long process in developing Christ like characteristics.

Sunday Evenings. Discple Cycle, 6:00 PM. Bible Study people preparing for action. Studies preparing believers how to live effectively in today’s world and to fulfill the Great Commission.

Disciple Cycle

These Bible studies focus on establishing spiritual disciplines in believers. Studies will take a new member or believer and place them on a track of discipleship and prepares them for a place of ministry in the church. This strategy is represented in the Disciple’s Wheel shown above. All members are encouraged to participate at all levels of the Disciple Cycle.

The Disciple Cycle process begins with the core units of 1) Jesus in You (salvation), 2) Membership, and 3) Core Discipleship. Once completing these studies, members then choose a ministry related track of study in which they are serving. The following tracks progress believers through the Disciple Cycle process.

New Believers: One on one discipling for new believers that will teach how to establish the habit of practicing spiritual disciplines (Bible study, prayer), church attendance, giving, participation, etc.

Membership: Meaningful Membership. Three two hour courses that teach members about basic core beliefs, ministries, purposes of Cedar Creek. The final goal is for the member to complete Course #3 with an idea of where they need to be serving in the church. Classes are offered immediately following Sunday morning worship. A meal is included.

Core Discipleship: Four discipleship courses that establish foundational spiritual disciplines, Christ like personality, techniques for spiritual warfare, and meaningful ministry.

Track Ministry: Biblical based training that provides applicable skills in participating in the ministry of the church. Track Ministry studies include Leading, Teaching, Witnessing, and Serving. Four course requirements make up each track of study. Certificates of completion will be issued.
