Born on May 11, 1959 in Edinburgh, Scotland, I grew up a Southern Baptist "missionary kid" in Africa and the Philippines for my first thirteen years before moving to North Carolina to be a "preacher's kid." Upon my graduation from High School, my father took another position while I went away to college at Ouachita Baptist University in Arkansas. After college, I married Sherri Pierce of Fort Smith, Arkansas, on February 5, 1983. I went on to Seminary at Mid-America Baptist in Memphis, received a Masters in Counseling from Memphis University, and finished my Doctor of Ministry degree at Mid-Western Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City. Sherri is presently working full time as the mother of our four children: Anna-Kathryn (born April 20, 1987), Audrey (born November 17, 1988), Haddon (born March 9, 1993), and Abigail (born May 22, 1996). My family is the joy of my life, and my wife is the light of my eyes.

I grew up in church, and have served in various capacities in churches all my life. In that time, I have seen all the good and bad of what church is all about. Like many of you, I’ve been tempted to quit the “organized” church. But I believe with all my heart that the church is what God designed as His primary tool for His people to grow. He desires that to happen through the teaching of the Word, as well as relationships with other believers. Now, I have been in ministry for over 28 years, and have never been happier. Cedar Creek is my church home and a dear people whom I am coming to love with all my heart. Mark Spena joined Cedar Creek Baptist Church September 0f 2005. He has a BS in Business Administration from William Jewell College and a Masters of Church Music from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Mark has served churches in Missouri, Oklahoma, North Carolina and Kentucky. One of his desires is to build up the body of Christ through his work with children and their families and focusing on God-centered worship.

God has blessed Mark with a wife/best friend, Beth, and two God-seeking children Greg and Becca.

Scott has been overseeing the young adult ministry at Cedar Creek since Fall 1999. Scott's calling is to teach and prepare young adults for an intentional walk with God. He serves bivocationally, also serving on staff at Southern Seminary where he received his master's and doctoral degrees. Since its inception, the Young Adult Ministry has grown to become a sizable community within the church and one that is strongly engaged in the church's ministry. While Scott and his family have offered many meals, lodging, counsel, game nights, and even occasional grooming tips to the young adults, they have received inestimable joy from the extended family that they have in the Cedar Creek Young Adult Ministry
